Alumanda M. Dela Rosa
Field of award: Radiation Chemistry
Year awarded: 1985
Division: Chemical Sciences
In recognition of her researches in the field of radiation biochemistry. Using gamma radiation on isolated membrane vessicles of E. coli, malady she showed the importance of plasma membrane as a radiation target which finds application in radiation carcinogenesis, radiation therapy, food irradiation and other areas of biological research. Equally significant is her contribution in enhancing the rate of saccharification of cellulosic wastes by gamma irradiation pre-treatment.
