Arnel A. Salvador

Field of award: Physics

Year awarded: 2002

Division: Physical Sciences

In recognition of his significant work and accomplishments in the fields of Physics specifically in III-V compound semiconductor materials. His work is highly cited and covers areas in fundamental physics, discount materials science, salve and optoelectronics. His most recent contribution to the Philippine Science is his pioneering in the field of molecular beam epitaxy- a current technique in growing thin films for semiconductor devices, medicine and opto-electronics. Through his efforts, he has set up an active semiconductor research group in the Philippines. He has demonstrated the capability to grow, fabricate and characterize Group III semiconductor devices, which will bring us at par with our more advanced Asian counterparts in the fields of semiconductor research.
