In recognition of his significant study on the burden of selected diseases in the country in terms of days of healthy life lost and his ranking of these diseases according to this parameter. This study has resulted in the identification of the methodological difficulties and limitations of determining the actual burden of diseases. He has contributed to the prevalence studies of leading diseases including mental illness, blindness and urine abnormalities which have presented principal data are necessary in policy formulation for their control.
