Field of award: Molecular Biology/Immunology
Year awarded: 2005
Division: Biological Sciences
In recognition of his significant contributions to the field of molecular immunology particularly the molecular cloning, expression and characterization of house dust mite allergens, one of the most common causes of allergic diseases worldwide. He is credited to be the first to have determined the full-length cDNA sequence of a paramyosin-homolog Blo t 11 allergen from the house dust mite Blomia tropicalis. Furthermore, he has generated monoclonal antibodies against house dust mite allergens for allergen detection, diagnosis and isolation and purification of native allergens.
