In recognition of his significant contributions in the field of Computer Science and Applications specifically in the areas of graph algorithms and computational biology (Bioinformatics). He has pioneered a number of innovations in computer science education, such as teaching Java to freshmen and incorporating Object Oriented Programming (OOP) in the software engineering course at Ateneo de Manila University.
