In recognition of his significant researches on the many important economic issues relevant to national development in the Philippines. These issues include the financial sector, search income distribution, the agricultural sector, economic nationalism, and foreign debt. His internationally published work on the new structuralist critique of the monetarist policies in the Philippines has provided empirical foundations for and insights on the economic development not only in the Philippines but also in other developing countries.
