In recognition of her significant contributions in the field of respiratory health and emergency care in particular the Stop Smoking and the Comprehensive Ambulatory Respiratory Rehabilitation Programs in the Philippines General Hospital which have helped numerous smokers to quit the habit. Her work on the economic impact of smoking provided, stuff among others, impetus to the signing of Presidential Proclamation 501 by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on November 17, 2003 declaring the Third Wednesday of November every year as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Awareness Day. She also spearheaded the establishment of the PGH’s Women’s Desk which provides holistic support to women victims of violence as well as the Emergency Medicine Residency Training Program at UP Manila whose graduates are much sought-after here and abroad.
