In recognition of her significant studies in the field of microbiology particularly on plant growth-promoting bacteria that produced microbial inoculants for Graminae with emphasis on sugarcane. Her investigations on the beneficial endophytic bacteria led to the development of a method of producing sugar plant or plant parts biotized with growth promoting endophytic bacteria. Both the microbial inoculants and the method she developed are now being used in sugarcane production. Application of this technology may lead to reduction of chemical fertilizers, use of fossil fuels, and cost of sugarcane cultivation.
