In recognition of her significant contribution in the field of surgery specifically in breast diseases, notably breast cancer. She spearheaded the development of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines on the diagnosis and management of breast cancer, which is concurrently being implemented by the Philippine College of Surgeons (PCS). In one of her researches on breast cancer, she identified the common (founder) mutations in BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 genes specific to Filipino patients and their relatives suspected of having hereditary breast cancer.
