Division: Biological Sciences
In recognition of her significant works and accomplishments in animal genetics and physiology particularly in the development and characterization of new mouse models for research on non insulin dependent Diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), one of the most common and highly prevalent diseases affecting human population worldwide. She has proven that the Philippine wild mouse (Mus musculus castaneus) is indeed a valuable genetic resource in the development of such an animal model. She is responsible for adding three new animal models for NIDDM which is of great value in the genetic analysis of disease associated traits therefore contributing to the understanding of the disease in humans.
