In recognition of his significant contributions in the field of soil science in relation to the environment, particularly the turnover of stable soil organic carbon to atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) and lime as major source of CO2 evolution in limed acid soils, allowing the partitioning of the contribution of agricultural ecosystems to global warming. His academic activities also include serving as research adviser to soil science students and as editor as well as reviewer of peer reviewed scientific journals in soil science.
